Earth - The Bees Made Honey In The Lions Skull

Album: The Bees Made Honey In The Lions Skull
Year: 2008

An epic piece of work. This album basically contains an atmospheric ambiance with a heavy hint of blues, here you will hear epic songs that have riffs repeating and repeating until they're driven through the ground with huge layers of reverb and echo. this feels like walking in deserted streets alone at 3 AM. this just needs to be heard rather than discussed.

The Bad Plus - For All I Care

Album: For All I Care
Year: 2008

a glorious effort in the name of all that is new and progressive. this album is unbelievably addictive because all of the revamped covers on it (pink floyd, the flaming lips, wilco) played them with nothing less than a set of drums, a stand-up bass and a piano, all put to unconventional use. For the first time progressive jazz trio "the bad plus" enlist the aid of a female vocalist, making their music much more accessible and approachable. I was very excited about this, and I still am. These guys are just FUCKING genius.

Sun Kil Moon - April

Album: April

An album that can be nowhere other than on repeat, an extremely beautiful piece of music speaks for itself. the usual helping of Mark Kozeleks dreamy acoustics and warm electric guitars that sound like dancing stars in the night is at its best here, with a bittersweet melancholic tone throughout, this makes the album one of the best ive heard all year.

Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind

Album: Third Eye Blind
Year: 1997

definitely one of my all-time favorite bands, third eye blind crafts catchy pop-rock songs that can immediately stick into your head, and they are very good at it. the thing that i loved most about this band is the lyrical aspect of the music, their words focus on the little thing in daily life and they make you notice those that are in yours. this album is just full of beautiful post-grunge music and very memorable tunes, and everything else you can expect from your typical amazing 90s group.

Junior Boys - So This Is Goodbye

Album: So This Is Goodbye
Year: 2006

So This Is Goodbye is one the best electronic pieces i have ever heard. Weezer - The Blue Album

Album: The Blue Album
Year: 1994

another very important 90s album, weezers debut drew alot of attention from alt/rock fans and bashing rock critics alike. Weezer combine hard-rocking beefy-sounding guitars with catchy pop melodies and a nerdy sense of humor. the band had alot of hits with this album, which explains why they acquired a large following and momentum for their later works, and why they are a 90s landmark.

Tracklist:

A Tribe Called Quest - Peoples Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhythm

Album: Peoples Instinctive Travels And The Paths Of Rhyth
Year: 1990
ahhh, Early 90s non-commercial hip hop, "A Tribe Called Quest" were known for their intelligent lyrics and song structures, heavy jazz sampling and positive messages. you will hear no less on this album. they have caused somewhat of a revolution in the world of underground hip hop, this album is full of new ideas. and again i would like to say, just because this is labled rap/hip hop doesnt mean that this is in anyway similar to the mainstream crap that you're regularly exposed to. this is totally diffrent. and totally respectable.

Eagles Of Death Metal - Peace, Love, Death metal

Album: Peace, Love, Death Metal
Year: 2004
An album packed with classic rock riffs and a rolling-stones-esque attitude towards pop rock type music, but still refreshingly weird, innvoative, entertaining and with a strong sense of humor "as you can most probably tell from the album cover". the music is very simple with a vibe that almost any music fan can enjoy.

The Bad Plus - These Are The Vistas

Album: These Are The Vistas
Year: 2003

The Bad Plus is basically a jazz trio, but the word "basically" wouldn't serve them much justice. they are so much more than just a jazz trio, they are three underrated and overlooked musical pioneers, each a master at his own instrument. here you wont hear nothing more or nothing less than an acoustic piano, a stand-up bass and a set of drums producing awe-inspiring complex jazz numbers. this band is also known for including revamped cover of songs that are not considered in any way "jazz" like nirvanas "smells like teen spirit", blondies disco hit "heart of glass" and the electronic "film" by aphex twin which are all on this album. this is an album that everyone should hear.

Tracklist:

Between The Buried And Me - Colors

Album: Colors
Year: 2007

Between The Buried And Me is a progressive metal act, they got their name off a counting crows song called "ghost train", "50 feet of earth between the buried and me". their music will literally exhaust you, its very hard to follow and technically shocking, and that's what makes this band stand out. they will take on a journey through a metal music spectrum, its relentless, intense and deafening, but if the music finds its way to you-which is very challenging- it becomes a very, very memorable listen. id have to say this album isn't very accessible, so be sure to check these guys out before downloading this.

One of the finest and most influential alt-rock albums of the 90s decade, and definitly one of the best all-time, this is the album that proved that the smashing pumpkins are a force to be reckoned with. their skill for writing whether hard rocking songs with screeching solos or sweet mellow songs with pure melodies is strongly displayed on this legendary album. this album has proved to be a 90s landmark, and rightfully so.

Queens Of The Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf

Album: Songs For The Deaf
Year: 2002

QOTSA is one of those exemplary creative and highly imaginative bands. they play the music they want to play, such confidence can only be displayed in their work. formed from the ashes of stoner rock icons "Kyuss", their ghost appears throughout the songs in their tendency for no-treble beefy crunchy bone-dry guitars and intense hard-rock drumming, yet they achieve complexity with such grace. most have heard about this band before, but i dont think that anyone has ever heard the essence of their music, and what they can do with it.

Tracklist:
1. You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar But I Feel Like a Millionaire
2. No One Knows

Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield

Album: Buffalo Springfield
Year: 1966

A criminally underrated group, buffalo springfield played a strong role in the evoloution of folk-rock and country-rock. this is the group that launched the career of folk legend neil young and stephen stills both of "crosby, stills, nash and young" fame. if youre a fan of the late 60s early 70s music era i would definetly reccomend this.

Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes

Album: Fleet Foxes
Year: 2008

this band has caused somewhat of a stir in the world of underground indie rock, because of their combination of agless folk music, classic pop(most notable in their sound "the beach boys") and modern prog. they have this rich vocal harmony that can leave you in awe. the music on here-their self-titles debut album- is too simple and too beatiful to dislike. a must have for any indie fan.

Anytime a band i like has a new album coming out, im usually concerned with how this album is going to be like, if its going to be up to par with whatever this band has done before. Snow Patrols new album "A Hundred Million Suns" is Anything but dissapointing, its actually very very good. With a little bit more acoustic guitars and a new-wave feel, this album is definetly a step forward for the band.

Deftones - Deftones

Album: Deftones
Year: 2003
the deftones are a multi-award winning alternative metal group, and in my opinion one of the best bands working today. they are immensely popular, but still not a drop of substance was shed from the bands core. this is their fourth effort, and conisidered to be their heaviest ever, but with their trademark ethreal and melodic metal music. if you look at this bands career, youll find out that its no strange thing that the deftones are consiered to be great pioneers of this new generation of music.

Thom Yorke - The Eraser

Album: The Eraser
Year: 2006

The debut solo album for radiohead frontman Thom Yorke is nothing short of exceptional, it is an electronic work of art. the songs here are perfectly crafted to fit thom yorkes sweeping vocals and intelligent lyrics, with a beautiful flow to every aspect of the music. it would be strange if you first heard about this album here.

High On Fire - Death Is This Communion

Album: Death Is This Communion
Year: 2007
this is the fourth studio album from underground heavy metal heroes "high on fire", this one has proved to be their finest moment yet. the album is nothing less than blunt, abrasive and heavy, with dark corrosive guitar riffing, haunting vocals and a slight old-school flavour.

Dog Fashion Disco - Adultery

Album: Adultery
Year: 2006
this album feels just like its cover does, like an old crime/thriller movie. This was dog fashion disco's last album, they disbanded after its release. this album is a metal, hardcore, jazz and lounge fusion, i wouldnt recommend this for anyone since this band is something else entirely, but if you like metal, you have to, have to check this band out.

Primus - Frizzle Fry

Album: Frizzle Fry
Year: 1990

primus is the band that does the opening theme from south park, this might give you a basic idea on what is the band about. the music on this album is all about slap/pop bass playing, metal type guitar riffs, and some very (for lack of a better word) wacky lyrics. a very progressive album.

The Kills - Midnight boom

Album: Midnight Boom
Year: 2008

This is by far one of the coolest, sexiest and most creative albums ive ever heard, I tripped upon the magic duo that is the kills last summer, and fell in love instantly. this band has a guitarist, a female vocalist, and because a third member doesnt exist, a simple drum machine is used for most of the percussion work. this is really a very creative album, anyone looking at this should definitley download this.

Jenny Lewis - Acid Tongue

Album: Acid Tongue
Year: 2008

Jenny lewis is the frontwoman of the critically acclaimed indie band Rilo Kiley (which youll eventually see later here on this blog). Acid tongue is in general a fun album to listen to, but the title track is as heavy as it gets. Jenny Lewis has this strong sort of dreamy voice, making the experience of listening to this album very enjoyable. if you like indie with a slight country flavour, you'll love this.

Pixies - Doolittle

Album: Doolittle
Year: 1989
when i first heard this band a couple of years back, the first impression i got was how their music sounds very modern, i was actually shocked when i found how old this band was. this bands influence lives on and strong in todays music (especially grunge acts, most notably nirvana). this bands music is characterized with a quiet-loud dynamic and a tendency for dark music (though the album gets very bright at some points), the lyrics get very surreal and off-beat throughout the album.
all in all a very good listen.

1. Debaser

Small Sails - Similar Anniversaries

Album: Similar Anniversaries

Weedeater - God Luck And Good Speed

Album: God Luck And Good Speed
Year: 2007

if you enjoy dull, heavy and slow sounds (hence the term "sludge") then you have to listen to this, weedeater offer the kind of big evil riffs that can swallow you whole, thats exactly how they feel like, like taking a band like wolfmother then taking away a "virtual" pop element, then slowing things down a bit. weedeater also have a strong southern rock influence, a direct proof of that is the cover of lynyrd skynyrds "gimme back my bullets" on the album, if you're a fan of either metal or southern rock n' roll, i definitely recommend this.

Tracklist:

1. God Luck and Good Speed
2. Wizard Fight

Sigur Ros – Agaetis Byrjun

Album:Agaetis Byrjun

This Icelandic band offers the kind of music that can move you deep inside, and unless you speak Icelandic, you wont understand anything that’s being said, but im more than glad to say that that’s hardly a problem. Year:1998

Metal music with gothic concepts and bit of a classical influence. The emphasis on distortioned guitars, more predominant use of synthesizer than typical metal bands and narrative, poetic lyrics blend together to produce a heavy gothic melody, if you are a metal fan this album will be very new experience to you cause I think nothing like that has been done before and probably it will never be done again.

Soul Coughing – Irresistible Bliss

Red Hot Chili Peppers – The Uplift Mofo Party Plan

Album:The Uplift Mofo Party Plan
